Box Score With the final weeks of the regular season quickly approaching, the Lancaster Bible women's soccer team looked to a former conference rival to get their engines going towards another deep playoff run.
The Chargers headed West on Route 283 on Tuesday evening to face Penn St. Harrisburg in Middletown, Pa. LBC did everything they could, but couldn't hold off the Nittany Lions as Harrisburg's Fay Ansary scored with 3:30 to play in double overtime to left the Nittany Lions over the Chargers, 2-1.Â
After falling behind 1-0 on Ansary's first goal of the game, the Chargers tied it at 1-1 on freshman
Kirsten Webster's third goal of the season at the 34 minute mark. The rest of regulation was scoreless as the Charges outshot the Nittany Lions, 22-16 for the game and held a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.
"I thought we played really well against a quality team," Chargers Head Coach
Ken Craul said. "The only thing we didn't do was get the result we wanted."
Though it was their second straight loss, Craul thinks the Chargers will be able to build off of Tuesday's game because of the hard work they put in for almost 110 minutes.Â
"We should be able to build off of tonight simply based upon the way we played," Craul said. "It's a tough loss, but the ladies played very well."
The two-game losing streak is LBC's first since the beginning of the 2012 season when they lost to Alvernia and Goucher to open the season before finishing the year, 19-5. The loss also means the Chargers will end the regular season 0-3 against Penn State branch campus schools. LBC had previously lost to NEAC foes, Penn St. Berks and Penn St. Abington. LBC will look to avenge those losses later this season in the NEAC playoffs.
For now, LBC will look to right the ship on Friday evening when they face Morrisville State in Morrisville, N.Y. Friday's game is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. and will be followed with a Saturday afternoon match against Cazenovia at 3 p.m.
