Box Score What was thought to be a bump in the road has turned into a full-on road block as the Lancaster Bible women's soccer team lost for the third time in four games on Saturday, falling to Cazenovia, 2-1 in overtime. The loss drops the Chargers to 10-6 overall and 7-3 in NEAC play.Â
The Wildcats struck first on Saturday as Leigh Shoemaker scored at the 24:01 mark to make it 1-0. The Chargers were slow and unorganized in the first half and the early goal did little to wake them up.
"I thought we were sluggish and just didn't play very well in the first half," Chargers Head Coach
Ken Craul said.Â
LBC picked up its play in the second half and were finally rewarded with 1:10 to play in the game as freshman
Alyssa Wesner scored her 11th goal of the season to the game at 1-1. Junior
Monica Horning assisted on the goal, upping her team-lead to seven. By scoring her 11th goal this season, Wesner ties the program-record for most goals by a freshman in a single season. Teammate
Bethany Stein scored 11 goals as a freshman last season.
The Chargers carried the momentum from the goal into overtime, but it was the Wildcats who put home the game-winner with 43 seconds left in the first overtime, sending the Chargers back home with a 1-1 weekend.
"I thought we played much better in the second half and overtime, just didn't put home the winner," Craul said.
LBC has one NEAC game remaining as they will host SUNY Cobleskill next Sunday, Oct. 27 at 3:30 p.m. in a make-up game originally scheduled for Oct. 12. In the meantime, the Chargers will host Valley Forge Christian on both Tuesday (3:30 p.m.) and Thursday (1 p.m.). Tuesday's game is a regular season game, while Thursday's game is the NCCAA East Region Semifinal. The seeds for the NCCAA East Region tournament are set, thus the top-seeded Chargers will host fourth seeded Valley Forge Christian. Cairn is the second seed and will host Baptist Bible, the third seed.
Should LBC defeat Valley Forge Christian on Thursday, they will host the NCCAA East Region Final on Saturday morning at 11 a.m.
In the NEAC playoff picture, the Chargers still hold the third spot in the standings. Should they remain in third or fourth, they will host a NEAC Quarterfinal game on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 1 p.m. against an opponent to be determined.
