Box Score The Lancaster Bible women's volleyball team is stuck in a bad pattern as it reached the midway point of its schedule on Wednesday night with a 3-1 loss to Goucher. The pattern of win one, lose one has the Chargers stuck below .500 as they play one of the biggest weekends of the season on Friday and Saturday in Reading, Pa.
On Wednesday in Baltimore, the Chargers dropped the first two sets by a combined five points as they went back-and-forth with the Gophers and lost, 25-22, 25-23. LBC took the set, another close one, 26-24, but couldn't maintain the pressure in the fourth set and lost, 25-16.Â
Chargers sophomore
Hannah Metzler had one of the best matches of her career as she had six kills, 30 assists and 22 digs. The 22 digs are the most of her career as she and the Chargers had 105 digs in four sets. Fellow sophomore
Rachel Olson had seven kills and 21 digs, while
Joanna Butala had a season-high 11 kills and 12 digs.
The Gophers (9-10) were led by Megan Chalk who had 13 kills and 17 digs.
LBC heads into its second NEAC Weekend of the season looking to establish itself as a true playoff team. The Chargers are currently 2-1 in NEAC play and are tied with Penn St. Abington for the fifth and final playoff spot. LBC will take on Penn St. Berks and Gallaudet on Friday (2 p.m. and 6 p.m.) and then face Penn St. Abington and St. Elizabeth on Saturday (10 a.m. and 12 p.m.)
The Chargers lost 3-0 to Penn St. Berks earlier this season and have not faced the other three teams. After Saturday, LBC will have just three more NEAC contests which will take place on Oct. 18 and 19 when they face SUNY Cobleskill, Keuka and Cazenovia. While a win this weekend over Penn St. Abington does not guarantee the Chargers a playoff spot, the road to the playoffs will be much easier if LBC is victorious.
