Box Score A day after being shocked by Cairn in the NCCAA East Region Final, the Lancaster Bible women's soccer did very little in the first 10 minutes of Sunday's regular season finale against SUNY Cobleskill to make anyone feel better about Saturday's effort. SUNY Cobleskill scored two goals in the first 8:24 to take a 2-0 lead on the Chargers, before LBC got its act together and came back to win a rare Sunday home game, 4-2 at Charger Field.
The Fighting Tigers Peyton Falb and Megan Golden scored to give SUNY Cobleskill the early lead and put LBC (once again) on its heels early in the game. Golden's goal came on a 30-yard strike that sailed just over LBC goalkeeper
Kaitlyn Scheuing's outstretched arms.
Those two shots by the Fighting Tigers turned out to be their last for the rest of the game as the Chargers took complete control and possessed the ball in the SUNY Cobleskill end for the rest of regulation. The only problem, as happened on Saturday as well, was scoring goals. Time-and-time again, the Chargers had opportunities, but either missed the goal entirely or the ball was saved by Fighting Tigers goalkeeper Hayley MacLean.
Finally, freshman
Kirsten Webster broke through at 38:13 to cut the Chargers' deficit to one. Webster collected a rebound and put the ball into the lower right-hand side of the net for her sixth goal of the season. The score remained 2-1 at halftime, before the slumbering Chargers offense finally woke up.
Brooke Cullum,
Alyssa Wesner and
Monica Horning all scored in a 5:23 span to turn a 2-1 deficit into a two-goal cushion at 4-2. Cullum received a great cross from Wesner and put the ball into the lower right-hand corner. Just 44 seconds later, Cullum returned the favor to Wesner as she crossed the ball into the box and Wesner scored once again to the lower right-hand corner.Â
Horning wrapped up the scoring 4:39 later when she took
Evelyn Stauffer's corner kick out of the air and crushed the ball into the back of the net for her 14th goal this season.
The Chargers continued their dominance the rest of the way and ended the game with a 39-2 advantage in shots (22-0 in the second half) and a 21-1 edge in corner kicks.
LBC (13-7) will be the third seed in the NEAC playoffs and host one of the NEAC Quarterfinal games against an opponent to be determined. The NEAC Quarterfinal will be played on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 1 p.m.
