Box Score Another win. Another shutout. Another dominating performance.Â
The Lancaster Bible women's soccer team has been a tale of two teams during the first third of its games. In their two losses, the Chargers have allowed early goals, looked lost on the field and lost by a combined score of 10-0. In their four wins, LBC has outscored its opponents, 17-0 and dominated for almost a full 90 minutes each time.Â
One of those four dominating wins occurred on Thursday at Charger Field against NCCAA East Region foe Baptist Bible as the Chargers scored 55 seconds into the game and never looked back, crushing the Defenders in every aspect of the game.
Chargers' junior
Monica Horning scored twice and assisted on another goal as her header in the first minute got LBC off and running. Her second goal, scored 34 minutes later, was the one both LBC coaches were talking about after the game however.
Horning blasted the ball into the top right-hand corner of the net from 35 yards out and gave the Chargers a 2-0 lead.
"That was just a rocket," Chargers Head Coach
Ken Craul said. "BBC's goalkeeper was out of the net just a little bit and Horning took advantage. What a shot."
LBC led just 2-0 at half, but the score tells little of the story as the Chargers outshot the Defenders, 24-0 and held a 8-0 edge in corner kicks.Â
In the second half, LBC tacked on three more goals as
Brooke Cullum,
Alyssa Wesner and
Olivia Rentzel all scored for the Chargers. For Cullum and Rentzel, the goals were their first of the season.Â
"I thought we played really well in the middle third of the field," Craul said. "We made some good runs and got some good chances off of those runs."
Craul was also pleased that LBC was able to score two goals off of corners.
"We're always working on corners and set pieces, so it's nice when the practice pays off in a game situation," Craul said.Â
For the game, LBC outshot the Defenders, 42-2 and held a 14-1 advantage in corner kicks. The win was the fifth straight for the Chargers over the Defenders.Â
The Chargers won't play their final NCCAA East Region game, against Valley Forge Christian, until October 22. Should LBC win that game, they will be the top seed in the NCCAA East Region playoffs and host the semifinals and final on Oct. 24 and 26 respectively.Â
In the meantime, the Chargers will travel to Chambersburg, Pa. on Saturday to take on Wilson at 1 p.m. One of the biggest conference games of the season looms on Monday as LBC will host Penn St. Berks at 4 p.m. The game is a rematch of last season's NEAC Final.
Notes:
-The Chargers have defeated BBC five straight times dating back to 2010.Â
-Horning's five points on Thursday give her 13 for the season and 91 for her career. With nine more points, she will become just the fourth player in LBC women's soccer history to reach the 100-point mark.
