Chargers Come Up Empty at Delaware Valley Tri-Match

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 For the second straight year, the Lancaster Bible women's volleyball team has started the season 0-5 thanks in part to two losses on Wednesday, one at the hands of Delaware Valley and one to Washington.

In the opening match against the host Aggies, the Chargers lost 3-0 and by scores of 25-22, 26-24, 25-23. Junior Katie Coomber led the Chargers with 13 kills and added 10 digs. Rachel Olson added seven kills and 10 digs, while Joanna Butala had a team-high 12 digs.

In the nightcap, the Chargers again lost, 3-0. Washington, which is 4-2 this season, won by scores of 25-11, 25-14, 25-12. Freshman Emily Olson had a team-high six kills, while her sister Rachel added a team-high 14 digs.

LBC had just 17 kills compared to 24 errors on 104 attempts. The Chargers' -.067 hitting percentage was their worst effort of the young season, something LBC Head Coach Lauren Bewley said had to do with the opponent and the Chargers' effort.

"We played worse in the second match and they [Washington] were a tougher opponent then in our first match," Bewley said. "I thought we had chances to win in the opening match, but we still have to work on our desire to win as a team. It's just not there right now."

The Chargers are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Winchester, Va. to play three matches at Shenandoah. LBC will face Mount Aloysius (11 a.m.), Hood (3 p.m.) and the host Hornets (5 p.m.).
