Box Score The Lancaster Bible women's soccer team opened North Eastern Athletic Conference play with a victory on Saturday as they defeated Gallaudet, 4-0 in Washington, D.C. The win was not only the first conference win, but the first overall win for LBC as well.Â
Freshman
Alyssa Wesner scored the first three collegiate goals of her career as her hat trick in the second half helped open up a game that was just 1-0 at halftime. Sophomore
Bethany Stein opened the scoring for the Chargers as her goal at the 28:19 mark of the first half broke a scoreless tie.Â
"I thought Stein played a very good game off the ball and was rewarded with our first goal," Chargers Head Coach
Ken Craul said. "We played fairly well in the first half, but we are still trying to find that chemistry between our players."
In the second half, the Chargers showed their dominance over the Bison as they scored three goals, all of them off the foot of Wesner.
"Alyssa also had a very good second half and she and her teammates created some very good opportunities which she took advantage of," Craul said. "I thought we settled in during the second half and looked smoother with our touches and passes."
The Chargers (1-1, 1-0 NEAC) dominated play in the second half and finished the game with a 38-1 advantage in shots and a 9-1 edge in corner kicks. Stein added an assist on Wesner's first goal, while
Kirsten Webster assisted on Wesner's second goal. Craul said he was pleased with the defense, despite their lack of work in the defensive end.
"Our defense supported us very well in our offensive end which allowed us to control the ball in there half for much of the second half," Craul said.
LBC improves to 5-1 all-time against Gallaudet and has not allowed the Bison to score a goal since 2009.
The Chargers are back in action on Monday when they travel to Langhorne, Pa. to take on Cairn at 4 p.m. LBC has won four straight meetings against the Highlanders.
