Box Score For all of the success the Lancaster Bible women's soccer team has had over the past four seasons, the season opening game has not been kind to the Chargers. Prior to Friday's season opener at Mount Aloysius, the Chargers were 0-4 in their past four season openers and had been outscored 10-1. In the program's 12 season openers leading up to Friday, Lancaster Bible had a record of 1-10-1 with the lone win coming in 2004 at Davis when the Chargers won, 6-0.
On Friday however, the Chargers overcame the early season jitters and took down Mount Aloysius, 4-1 in Cresson, Pa. as they snapped a nine-game season-opening losing streak. After no goals were scored in the first 30 minutes, the Chargers'
Monica Lambertson opened the scoring with the 46th goal of her career. Olivia Woodley answered back nine minutes later to knot the score at 1-1, but Lancaster Bible freshman
Emily Beltran responded two minutes later to give the Chargers a 2-1 halftime lead.
Fellow freshman
Abby Groff gave the Chargers some breathing room with 22 minutes to play and Beltran's second of the game three minutes later put the Mounties away for good. Groff added an assist on Beltran's second goal as the freshmen combined for seven points in their first collegiate games.Â
Junior
Kaitlyn Scheuing made five saves for the 15th win of her career. The Chargers held a 19-12 edge in shots and a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.
"I thought we played pretty well today," Chargers Head Coach
Ken Craul said. "It was nice to get lots of people on the field and have the new kids experience a regular season game."
Lancaster Bible will host its first game of the season on Wednesday when they host Alvernia at 4 p.m. at Charger Field. The Crusaders are 5-0 all-time against the Chargers and have outscored Lancaster Bible, 13-1 in those games, including 4-0 last season in Reading, Pa.
Notes:-The Chargers now need just one win for the 125th in program history.
-Lambertson's 46 career goals trail just Whitney Heise (2009-12) who scored 59 in her four seasons with the Chargers.
-2004's season opening win was also on the road as Lancaster Bible defeated Davis in Johnson City, N.Y.
