Box Score Fresh off its first victory in a season opening game in 10 years, the Lancaster Bible women's soccer team was looking to reverse another recent trend and that was to finally crack the Alvernia defense and defeat the Crusaders. The Chargers entered the day 0-5 all-time against Alvernia and had been outscored 13-1 in those games.
Unlike the season-opening streak that was snapped on Friday, the visiting Crusaders once again showed their dominance over the Chargers as they won, 3-0 at Charger Field on Wednesday afternoon. Shannon Browne scored twice in just over three minutes early in the second half to extend the Crusaders' lead from 1-0 to 3-0 and effectively end any chance Lancaster Bible had.
The game was scoreless over the first 30 minutes as each team had its chance. Alvernia finally capitalized on one of its chances at the 32:02 mark when Taylor Landis scored her first goal of the season and gave the Crusaders a 1-0 advantage. The score remained that way through halftime, but with 35 minutes to play, Browne collected a pass from Bailey Stover and scored into the back of the net, extending the lead to 2-0. Browne wasn't done, as she finished a cross from Devon Reeves three minutes later off of a corner kick and iced the game for the Crusaders.
Lancaster Bible goalkeeper
Kaitlyn Scheuing did all she could, even stopping a partial breakaway early in the second half, and made six saves.
Bethany Stein,
Emily Beltran,
Monica Lambertson and
Alyssa Wesner all recorded four shots for the Chargers.
Lancaster Bible will open North Eastern Athletic Conference play on Friday at Cazenovia. The Wildcats defeated the Chargers, 2-1 in overtime last season in Cazenovia, N.Y. Friday's game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
