Box Score 2 In a week that sees the Lancaster Bible women's volleyball team host two tri-matches, the Chargers began with a 1-1 mark on Wednesday against Delaware Valley and Shenandoah. Lancaster Bible swept the opener against the Aggies, 3-0 and lost the nightcap to the Hornets by the same score.
Against Delaware Valley, the Chargers had their best hitting match of the young season as they smashed 37 kills against just 12 errors on 95 attempts, good enough for a .263 hitting percentage. Lancaster Bible won, 25-20, 25-18, 25-13. Freshman
Myranda Kemrer led the way with nine kills and 12 digs, while seniors
Katie Coomber and
Amanda Maltzahn each added eight kills. Junior
Grace Scheuerman had 15 digs, while fellow junior
Hannah Derr had her second match of the season with 30 more assists.
The Chargers also had 10 aces, their second time cracking the double digit mark this season. The win over the Aggies was the first for Lancaster Bible since the 2010 season.Â
In the nightcap, the Hornets had 38 kills compared to just 23 for Lancaster Bible. Shenandoah defeated the Chargers, 25-17, 25-17, 25-13 as they improved to 6-2 all-time against Lancaster Bible. Shenandoah committed just nine errors, while the Chargers had 23. Kemrer and
Emily Olson had five kills each to pace the Chargers, while Coomber had four kills and 14 digs. Scheuerman finished with a team-high 15 digs.
"I thought we played well against Shenandoah within each point," Lancaster Bible Head Coach
Lauren Bewley said. "The score doesn't reflect that, but both teams worked hard for every single point."
Lancaster Bible will host the second of its two tri-matches this week on Saturday when the Chargers welcome Messiah and Cairn to Horst Athletic Center. The Chargers will take on the Falcons at 11 a.m. and the Highlanders at 3 p.m. Messiah and Cairn will play one another at 1 p.m.
Notes:-Lancaster Bible is now 3-8 all-time against Delaware Valley.
-The Chargers have not defeated Shenandoah since the 1989 season.
