Women's Lacrosse Takes Down Mariners

How It Happened
The Lancaster Bible College women's lacrosse team continued their strong start to the season, defeating Maine Maritime Academy by a score of 21-13 on Tuesday, March 1.

The Mariners (0-2 Overall, 0-0 NAC) scored the first goal of the game, taking an early lead. The Chargers (2-0 Overall, 0-0 United East) answered back with Katelynn Perrotta capitalizing on a free position shot to tie the game at one. After Maine Marine retook the lead, Kayla Steiner found Kendal Ream to tie the game at two. Moments later Lindsey Weaver won the draw control and found Steiner for a goal to give LBC their first lead of the game. With the game tied at three, Perrotta found Ream for back-to-back goals, allowing LBC to take a 5-3 advantage. Steiner kept LBC in front by two goals, scoring on free position shot. Ream closed out the opening quarter, scoring a goal after coming away with a turnover and spiriting the length of the field. The Chargers led 7-4 going to the second quarter.

Ream continued to shine for the Chargers, opening the second quarter by winning the draw and racing the length of the field to score within the first 13 seconds of the quarter. Perrotta extended LBC's advantage to five after she netted her second goal of the game.  After two straight goals by Maine Maritime, Weaver found Ream for her sixth goal of the half. The Chargers scored four consecutive goals with Ream adding two more goals before the end of the half, bring her first half total to eight. LBC led 13-7 at the end of the first half.

After a goal heavy first half, neither team found their rhythm early in the second half, with no goals being scored in the first nine minutes. Perrotta, Ream and Steiner each scored in the final 2:30 of the quarter, giving the Chargers a 16-8 lead going into the final quarter. Amanda Allen scored her first goal of the season on a free position shot, giving LBC a nine-goal lead early in the quarter. Ream struck one more time, rounding out her 10-goal game, scoring on free position shot midway through the quarter. In complete control, LBC rolled to a 21-13 victory.

Inside the Numbers
- Kendal Ream continued her outstanding start to the season, setting a new career-high with 10 goals. Her 10 goals are tied for the third most in a single game in school history. Ream filled the stat sheet adding an assist, three ground balls, and eight draw controls
- Katelynn Perrotta had a big outing, scoring five goals and dishing three assists. She also added four wins on draw controls
- Kayla Steiner also tallied five goals, going 2-2 on free position shots
- Amanda Allen netted her first goal of the season
- Lindsey Weaver dished a pair of assists
- Alexis Garrett had a strong outing in goal, recording 10 saves
- The Mariners were led by Hazel Stoddard who scored six goals and dished an assist
- The Chargers out shot the Mariners 32-29


Who's Next
The women's lacrosse team will hit the road for the first time this season, traveling to Keystone College to take on the Giants on Saturday, March 5 at 1:00 p.m.
