Women's Lacrosse Wins Road Matchup With Keystone

How It Happened
The Lancaster Bible College women's lacrosse team won its first road contest of the season, defeating Keystone College by a score of 17-5 on Saturday, March 5.

The Chargers (3-0 Overall, 0-0 United East) took the lead, scoring first when Katelynn Perrotta found Lindsey Weaver for the game's first goal. Keystone (0-2 Overall, 0-0 CSAC) immediately answered back, tying the game at one. Kendal Ream scored her first goal of the game, capitalizing on a free position shot to give LBC a 2-1 lead. Perrotta then earned a free position shot, finding the back of the net, giving LBC a two-goal lead. Ream and Perrotta each added another goal, giving LBC a 5-2 lead going into the second quarter.

The second quarter started much more defensive, with neither team being able to score during the first seven minutes. Ream broke through scoring on free position shot, giving LBC a 6-2 lead. After another goal by Perrotta, Kayla Steiner scored off a quality pass from Weaver, giving LBC an 8-4 lead at the half.

Ream started the Chargers' offense in the second half, scoring on free position shot three minutes into the half. Abby Donaldson extended the Chargers lead to six, scoring her first career goal. The Chargers ended the game with an offensive flurry, scoring three goals in the final 1:56 to take a 13-4 lead into the final quarter. The Chargers offense continued to roll in the final quarter, scoring four more times. LBC's defense led by starting goalie Alexis Garrett, held the Giants to just one goal in the second half, allowing Keystone to take just four shots. The Chargers powered to the 17-5 victory.

Inside the Numbers
- Kendal Ream once again led the Chargers offense, scoring six goals and dishing an assist. Ream now has 24 goals on the season
- Katelynn Perrotta scored five goals and dished a pair of assists. Perrotta also won 12 draw controls
- Lindsey Weaver scored two goals and dished two assists
- Kayla Steiner also had two goals and two assists
- Abby Donaldson scored her first career goal
- Amanda Allen also added a goal
- Alexis Garrett made six saves in the win
- The Giants were led by Krista Strausser, who scored four goals
- The Chargers held a 19-14 edge in ground balls and dominated draw controls, holding an 18-8 advantage

Coaching Points
"We had a slow start but picked up our intensity in the second half, playing together as a team," said head coach Cheri Horst. "The defense had some great stops, again forcing several shot clock violations. I am happy with the win, but we still have a lot to work on, our expectations raise with every performance."

The women's lacrosse team will return home to face Eastern University on Tuesday, March 8 at 6:30 p.m.
