How it Happened
The Lancaster Bible College baseball team fell in game one of their three-game series to Penn St. Harrisburg by a score of 7-3 on Friday, April 22.
Penn St. Harrisburg (20-14 Overall, 14-2 United East) grabbed an early lead, scoring three runs in the first inning. The Chargers (15-17 Overall, 10-6 United East) tried to score in the bottom frame.
Blake Greenly singled up the middle to open the inning, then stole second base.
Jaden Pinkney drew a walk to put two runners on, but they would not be able to come around. Starting pitcher
Owen Shimmel halted the Lions' attack for the next three innings, sending the side down 1-2-3 each time and recording four strikeouts in that span.
Harrisburg broke through again in the fifth and sixth innings, scoring three runs to extend their lead to six runs. LBC had their response in the seventh inning.
Adam Naylor and
James Toney knocked back-to-back singles to begin the rally, then Greenly hit a hard ground ball that forced an error, allowing Naylor to score the Chargers' first run of the game. Later in the inning,
Ethan Varricchione drew a walk to load the bases.
Jaden Pinkney capitalized, smashing a two-run single through the left side to cut the deficit to three.
After the Lions tacked on another run in the top of the ninth inning, LBC had one final chance in the bottom of the ninth.
Brian Coburn drew a walk to start the inning, but could not come around to score, with Harrisburg securing the 7-3 win.

The baseball team will conclude their conference series with Penn St. Harrisburg on Saturday, April 23 with the first game scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m. The team's seniors will be honored prior to the first game as part of senior day.
