Chargers Play Man-Down, Still Beat Waynesburg

Having to play a man-down might have spelled doom in the past for the Lancaster Bible College women's lacrosse team. In 2010, however, it is no big deal.

Playing with only 11 players, the Chargers crushed Waynesburg, 17-5 on Saturday at Charger Field. Kirsten Fuller and Whitney Heise each had four goals to lead the LBC attack. Mercedes Collins and Rebekah Weidel chipped in with three goals to help LBC to its third straight victory.

"We have a balanced offense," Chargers' Head Coach Jess Creeden said. "We have six or seven threats now, instead of two. Defenses can't just guard one or two players and shut us down."

LBC (6-7) goalie Nicole Valinteno made five saves to earn her sixth win of the season.

The Chargers' offense, which has scored a school-record 129 goals this season, took control in the middle of the first half, scoring six times in a 10-minute span.

"We have been controlling the ball much better, as well as, making good cuts and being patient," Creeden said. "We are not hoping to score now, but rather, we are running plays and attacking the goal."

Rachel Warren also had a big day, scoring once and assisting on two others. Collins added two assists to go with her three goals.

Waynesburg's Mandy Ormsby had three goals to pace the Yellow Jackets (1-9). Samantha Swab and Brittany Walton added the other goals.

LBC hosts its final home game of the season on Monday when they take on Rutgers-Camden at 4:00 p.m.
