Wilkes Hands LBC Loss in Season Finale

Having already won a school-record six games this season, the Lancaster Bible College women's lacrosse team came oh-so-close to making it seven.

Erica Sundberg's goal with 17 seconds remaining gave Wilkes a 14-13 lead that they would not relinquish and ended LBC's season with a loss. Rebekah Weidel scored with 36 seconds to go to tie the game at 13, before Sundberg drove down the field and drew a penalty. Her free position goal ended the game.

"It was an intense game the whole way through," Chargers' Head Coach Jess Creeden said. "We played really well, just came up a bit short."

Kirsten Fuller led the Chargers (6-10) with four goals and one assist. Whitney Heise added three goals. Freshman Mercedes Collins ended her impressive season with a goal and an assist.

Goalie Nicole Valinteno made 11 saves in the loss.

"Nicole made some big saves to keep us in it," Creeden said. "She played well today."

The loss ends the record-breaking season for the Chargers. The 163 goals scored this season almost doubled the previous record of 84. The six wins this season is two more than the previous record of four.

Heise, Fuller and Weidel all ended the season with 29 goals, which is also a new school-record. Heise and Weidel finished with 36 points for the year.

With no seniors, the entire team will return in 2011 - looking to break more records.
