Cazenovia's Nicole Kimmel had four goals and five assists to lead the Wildcats past Lancaster Bible College, 17-7 on Saturday at Charger Field.
The Chargers trailed 6-2 late in the first half, but cut the lead to 6-4 on goals by
Whitney Heise and
Rebekah Weidel. The Wildcats responded however and scored with just four seconds remaining in the opening half to take a 7-4 lead into the break.
LBC (0-3) could not manage the same effort or offense in the second half as Cazenovia (1-3) scored eight of the game's last nine goals and cruised to an easy victory.
"It's a disappointing loss," Chargers' Head Coach Evelyn Long said. "Not because of the score, but because of our lack of effort and desire in the second half. I'm not really sure what happened after halftime, we just didn't play well."
Chargers' goalie
Erin Leonard however, played well for 60 minutes for LBC. Leonard made 17 saves and kept the Chargers in the game for as long as she could.
"She came up huge for us," Long said. "She played amazing and the score could have been a lot worse."
Weidel finished with three goals, while Heise and
Kirsten Fuller each had two goals apiece. Long said the offense needs to slow the game down a bit and give the rest of the team a chance to rest.
"We want possession of the ball," Long said. "We can't get into shootouts with teams, because we just don't have the numbers to do that."
The Chargers take on Bryn Mawr on Tuesday a 4:30 p.m.
