Chargers Fall Short Against Wesley

The three previous times Lancaster Bible College had faced Wesley, the Wolverines had dominated the Chargers and outscored them by a 56-2 margin. That didn't stop this year's version of LBC women's lacrosse set a goal prior to Tuesday's game that they were going to hold the Wolverines to under 15 goals.

Though they fell short on the scoreboard, losing 14-3, the Chargers met their goal and in the meantime scored one more goal Tuesday than they had previously scored in three prior meetings.

"It's exciting to set a goal prior to the game and reach it," Chargers' Head Coach Evelyn Long said. "We played pretty well defensively today, we just didn't have any offense."

The little bit of offense LBC had came via Whitney Heise who had two goals and an assist. They were goals 20 and 21 for Heise this season. She is nine goals away from tying Rebekah Weidel's single-season record of 30 with seven games to play.

Wesley (6-8) led 9-3 at halftime and their defense proved to be even more stingy than the Chargers' defense in the second half as they did not surrender a goal. Jen Jacobs led the Wolverines with four goals on the day, while Mia Brocco had three.

The Chargers (2-5) did not quit and continued to pressure Wesley late into the second half.

"I thought our seniors did a great job of leading today," Long said. "Rebekah Weidel did a great job today too. She hustled the whole game and played hard."

Wesley out shot LBC, 30-19 and held a 28-16 edge in groundballs.

The Chargers return to action on Thursday when they travel to Allentown, Pa. to take on Cedar Crest College at 4 p.m.
