The Lancaster Bible College women's lacrosse team celebrated Senior Day with an 18-1 drubbing of Rosemont College on Saturday. Every Chargers' player scored a goal, including goalie
Erin Leonard who played the field in the second half.
Whitney Heise led LBC with five goals. Her final goal of the day gave her 31 for the season, a new single-season record at LBC. Senior
Kirsten Fuller and
Erin Railey scored twice for the Chargers, who led 12-1 at halftime.
Many of the LBC players who scored, scored their first goal of the season. Now that they have scored, Chargers' Head Coach Evelyn Long hopes that this will propel the Chargers' offense moving forward.
"Mentally to be able to get over that hump of finally scoring, hopefully this will help us for the rest of the season," Long said.
Before the game, LBC honored three seniors, Fuller,
Rachel Warren and
Kelsey Scott. Fuller is the first four-year senior for the women's lacrosse program, while this is Warren's third season.
"Kirsten and Rachel have really stepped up as leaders this season," Long said. "We have a lot of new players to the sport and they have done a great job with helping those players and teaching them to communicate on the field. They are definitely making the most of their final season here."
Also prior to the game, LBC and Rosemont honored Ravens' senior Ashley Conti and her mother, Cathy. Cathy is a breast cancer survivor who is going for surgery on Tuesday for probable ovarian cancer and will not be able to attend Rosemont's Senior Day. Both teams wore pink and teal socks to support the fight against breast and ovarian cancer.
"It was good to focus on Ashley and her mother before and after the game," Long said. "We are living what our name is and showing that even though we are competing against you, we still care for you. It was awesome to show our support to Ashley and her mother."
The Chargers return to action on Monday when they face Bryn Mawr at 4 p.m.
