Box Score The Lancaster Bible women's lacrosse team snapped a seven-game losing streak on Wednesday as they defeated Penn St. Abington, 14-11 at Charger Field.
Whitney Heise had six goals to lead the Chargers to their first victory since March 19.
A closely played game all day long, the Chargers and Nittany Lions exchanged goals back and forth up until the 12:46 mark of the second half as
Britany Stout scored her first goal of the season to give the Chargers an 11-10 lead. Heise scored her fifth and sixth goals of the day over the next seven minutes to give LBC a three goal cushion at 13-10.
Avery Winn's fifth goal of the game with 4:03 to play cut the Nittany Lions' deficit to two at 13-11, but LBC's
Danielle Good scored 17 seconds later to extend the Chargers' lead back to three and put the game away.
Good,
Ky-Leigh Hallman and
Kasha Kapp each scored twice for the Chargers who improved to 2-10 overall and 1-4 in NEAC play.
Emily Lloyd, along with Stout, scored her first goal of the season. Freshman
Cheyenne Benson made nine saves in goal for the Chargers who outscored the Nittany Lions, 7-4 in the second half.
"We seemed jittery and out of sorts in the first half, but we still went into halftime tied at 7-7," Chargers' Head Coach
Zach Freeman said. "I told the ladies that we hadn't played our best lacrosse and still were in a great position to earn a victory. I thought they did a great job in the second half of taking advantage of their opportunities and controlling the play a little more."
The six different goal scorers are a season high for LBC, something Freeman said the team has tried to do all season long.
"When we get everyone involved and get shots to the goal, we can be a dangerous team," Freeman said. "Whitney's always going to get her chances and shots, but when our other attackers and midfielders are aggressive and getting chances too, that's when we know we are going to be in good shape."
The Chargers will head North to New York for the second straight weekend as they take on Morrisville State on Friday and Cazenovia on Saturday.
