Baseball Closes Out Florida Trip With Double Header Split

How It Happened
The Lancaster Bible College baseball team fell in game one of a double header with Farmingdale State College, losing by a score of 9-1 on Monday, March 14.

The Rams (4-4 Overall) built an early lead in the first inning, leading by three runs after one frame. After Farmingdale St. extended the lead to 6-0, the Chargers (4-7 Overall) got their first hit of the game with Ethan Varricchione knocking an infield single. LBC could not capitalize on the opportunity to score, trailing by six after four innings of action.

Lancaster Bible got the offense started in the top of the fifth inning. James Toney started the inning with a double, followed by a single from Harrison Hobdy. On the next play, Hobdy got caught trying to take second base, but Toney cashed in on the confusion, scoring to get LBC on the board. The Chargers could not bring any more runs home, with the score being 6-1 heading into the sixth.

Farmingdale St. continued to provide run support for pitcher Jordan Lambert, who pitched the entire game for the Rams, allowing just one Chargers run off four hits. LBC made one final effort in the top of the seventh inning, with Toney drawing a walk and advancing to second on a groundout. This was as far as he would travel on the base path, with the Rams closing out the 9-1 victory.

Inside the Numbers
- James Toney led the way for the Chargers, batting 1-2 on the day. Toney knocked a double, drew a walk, and scored the lone run for LBC
- Jaden Pinkney went 1-3 with a double
- Harrison Hobdy and Ethan Varricchione also recorded hits for LBC
- The Rams was led by Richard Apollo Jr., who went 1-4 with a 3-run home run and a sacrifice fly

On the Mound
- Colin Brubaker started at pitcher for the Chargers, pitching 1.1 innings and allowing six runs on four hits, recording a pair of strikeouts
- Jacob Stolte came on in relief, pitching 3.2 innings and giving up three runs on three hits
- Jordan Weiss made his first appearance of the season, throwing the sixth inning and holding the Rams scoreless, allowing just one hit

How It Happened
The Lancaster Bible College baseball team bounced back in game two, defeating Farmingdale State College by a score of 8-4 on Monday, March 14.

The Chargers (5-7 Overall) started strong, with Jaden Pinkney lifting a solo home run over the left field fence to put LBC on the board first. They continued to grab early bases, with Blake Greenly knocking a single and Tyler Cunningham drawing a walk. Both Greenly and Cunningham swiped bases, putting themselves in scoring position for Ethan Varricchione, who crushed a double down the left field line to put them across the plate and extend LBC's lead to three.

After the Rams (4-5 Overall) scored in the bottom of the second inning, it was a pitcher's duel for several frames, with neither team able to push any runs across the plate. LBC tried to start a rally in the fifth inning. After Lucas McCormick hit a one-out single, Brian Coburn connected on a triple to right center, but McCormick was caught at the plate, with the lead remaining at two after five innings.

Farmingdale St. tied the game at three in the sixth inning, but the Chargers had an emphatic response in the bottom half of the inning. Hobdy drove in the first run of the inning with a single to left field that scored Greenly, giving LBC the lead. Later in the inning, with the bases loaded, Daniel Yoder reached on a fielder's choice that scored Hobdy. McCormick followed with a two-run single up the middle, driving in his first two RBIs of the season. Pinkney closed out the scoring in the sixth for the Chargers, knocking a single down the third base line and scoring McCormick to give LBC a five-run lead. After allowing one run in the top of the second, the Chargers secured the 8-4 victory.

Inside the Numbers
- Jaden Pinkney led the Chargers, going 2-4 with an RBI single and a solo home run
- Ethan Varricchione went 1-2 with a two-run double
- Brian Coburn was 2-4 including a triple
- Lucas McCormick recorded a pair of hits including a single that drove in two runs
- Farmingdale St. was led by Jordan Lambert who was 1-1 in the game with two RBIs

- Blake Greenly closed out the game for LBC, keeping the Rams hitless and allowing only one run in the seventh and final inning

The baseball team will return home to open up United East Conference play, hosting Penn College for a weekend series beginning Friday, March 18 at 3:30 p.m.
