How It Happened
The Lancaster Bible College women's lacrosse team grabbed an important United East victory on the road against SUNY Morrisville by a score of 18-8 on Friday, April 22.
The Chargers (9-5 Overall, 3-1 United East) grabbed the early lead with
Kendal Ream netting her first goal of the game. After the Mustangs (5-5 Overall, 2-2 United East) tied the game at one,
Katelynn Perrotta won the draw control and slashed to the net, scoring her 100th career goal. Perrotta is the seventh player in program history to score 100 career goals. Morrisville scored again, with the teams tied at two at the end of the period.
Kayla Steiner kicked off the scoring for the Chargers in the second quarter, dishing back-to-back assists with both
Kym Kouterick and Perrotta scoring. Then, Perrotta found Steiner for a score, extending LBC's lead to three. Kouterick then found
Abby Donaldson for her first score of the game. The Chargers strung together five consecutive assisted goals, with Steiner scoring off a pass from Ream to maintain a three-goal lead. Ream tacked on a goal at the end of the quarter, sending LBC into halftime with an 8-4 advantage.
The Chargers scored the first three goals of the second half, all of them off of assists. During that span, Steiner assisted Ream twice and Perrotta found Donaldson for her second score of the game. Perrotta exploded on offense, netting back-to-back goals to put LBC up by eight. Like the second quarter, Ream rattled off a score before the end of the period, giving the Chargers a 14-6 lead heading into the final frame.
It was
Kendal Ream who put the game away for the Chargers in the fourth quarter. The Mustangs were limited to only two goals in the fourth quarter, and Ream had the response on offense. After Morrisville cut the lead to seven, Ream scored twice in a two-minute span. Ream anchored the last five minutes of the game, scoring two more times to put the Mustangs away and help the Chargers secure the 18-8 victory.
