How It Happened
The Lancaster Bible College women's lacrosse team dominated United East opponent La Roche University, picking up a 21-7 home victory on Saturday, April 9.
The Chargers (7-4 Overall, 2-1 United East) got off to a blazing start. 13 seconds into the game,
Katelynn Perrotta found
Kayla Steiner for a goal, then Perrotta scored off a free position goal to give LBC an early 2-0 lead.
Kendal Ream quickly got on the board, racing down the field to extend the lead to three. Later in the quarter, Steiner and Ream each added their second goals of the contest, forcing a timeout by the Redhawks (1-10 Overall, 0-3 United East). After the Chargers gained a player advantage,
Amanda Allen drew found the back of the net for her first goal of the game. Lancaster Bible carried the 6-0 lead into the quarter break.
La Roche scored back-to-back goals at the beginning of the second quarter to trim the lead to four, holding LBC scoreless through the first nine minutes. Steiner found Ream twice in the next two minutes, tallying two more goals to make the score 8-2. The Redhawks scored on a free position attempt, but the Chargers carried a five-goal lead into halftime.
Perrotta kicked off the third quarter scoring, with
Abby Donaldson dishing her first career assist to extend the lead to six goals. After a quick turnaround, Perrotta passed the ball in to
Molly Gray, with Gray scoring her first collegiate goal to put LBC in double figures. Donaldson then took a free position shot that got blocked, but she grabbed the rebound and scored for the first time at home this season. Later in the quarter, Perrotta and Steiner each added to their scoring totals, putting the Chargers up by nine goals. La Roche went on to score three of the next four goals, but Perrotta found the back of the net on back-to-back shots to send LBC into the final period leading 16-7.
After the first five minutes left each team without a score,
Kym Kouterick netted her first goal of the game to extend the margin to 10 goals. Ream then found Donaldson for her second score of the game, and Perrotta immediately followed her, netting her seventh goal of the contest. Gray went on a tear to end the game, scoring in the open field twice in the last three minutes to bring her to three goals on the day. The Chargers held La Roche scoreless in the fourth quarter, securing the 21-7 victory.
