The losing streak is over and the Lancaster Bible College women's volleyball team will host the NCCAA East Region Tournament. Those statements are the result of the Chargers' 3-1 victory over Philadelphia Biblical on Tuesday night in Horst Athletic Center.
Peggy Compton had a team-high 18 kills and added 19 assists to lead LBC to their first win over the Crimson Eagles since October 10, 2002.
Hailee Growden added 14 kills and 19 assists, while
Lauren Heliger had seven kills and 19 digs.
Compton and Growden's connection at the net proved to be too much for the Crimson Eagles' defense to withstand.
"We sort of give each other a look after each point and can just tell what the other is thinking," Compton said. "We could actually feel like we were getting better as a team tonight and that will be big for us moving forward."
LBC Head Coach
Lauren Bewley agreed with Compton.
"Tonight showed that we aren't just the underdog in the region anymore," Bewley said. "We fight hard and can compete with anyone."
The Chargers'
Hannah Fogle had 18 digs and played a large part in the win.
"Hannah's defense is driving our defense as a whole," Bewley said. "Peggy is out-smarting them upfront and Hannah is playing well in the back. We played as a unit tonight and that was our goal going into the match."
Both Growden and Compton have over 200 kills and 300 assists this season and once again dominated their opponent at the net.
"We have momentum now for the rest of the season and while there are things to work on, we are confident," Compton said.
LBC junior
Brittney Becker said the win means a lot to the team and the program as a whole.
"It makes a statement and we are not just a blow off team anymore," Becker said. "Teams have to beat us and have to come to play, or we will win."
The Chargers (12-16) will practice on Wednesday, but have the rest of the week off for LBC's fall break. They return to action on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. when they host Washington Adventist.
