The Lancaster Bible College women's volleyball season ended on Friday, but not without the Chargers taking a team to the brink one last time. For the seventh time this season, LBC played a five set match, unfortunately, for the fourth time, the lost.
The Chargers battled Grace University to five sets before falling, 3-2. Grace won, 22-25, 25-20, 25-19, 23-25, 15-9.
"It was probably the best match we have played all season long," LBC Head Coach
Lauren Bewley said. "It was a perfect example of our team playing the best it could. It was a great team effort all of the way through."
After falling behind two sets to one, LBC (17-23) stormed back and took an 11-6 lead in the fourth set. Grace cut the lead to 24-23, but the Chargers held on and won the fourth set. Of their 40 matches this season, LBC played seven five set matches and held a record of 3-4.
"It was excellent volleyball on both sides," Bewley said. "We obviously wanted to win, but it was a great match to be a part of."
In the day's opening match, LBC lost to Clearwater Christian, 3-0. The Cougars, the tournament's number one seed, defeated the Chargers, 25-17, 25-15, 25-12.
With pool play having concluded, Clearwater Christian and Maranatha Baptist Bible advanced from Pool A, while Ozark Christian and Kentucky Christian advanced from Pool B. Kentucky and Clearwater will battle in the first semi-final, while Ozark and Maranatha will face-off in the second semi-final. The winners will meet Saturday at 4:00 p.m. in the NCCAA National Championship Match.
LBC will return everyone from a team that won the NCCAA East Region Championship for the first time in 21 years in 2011 and will look to use their experience at Nationals this season next year when they defend their title.
