Chargers Fall to Raptors

After having 19 days off between their first game of the season and Saturday's game against Rutgers-Camden, the Lancaster Bible College women's lacrosse did not show any rust in the five minutes of the game, the rest of the first half however, the Chargers' mental lapses and rust hurt them several times, resulting in an 8-3 halftime deficit.

The deficit proved to be too big as the Chargers' efforts to battle back came up short and LBC lost, 15-11. Whitney Heise had a team-high five goals for the Chargers, while Rebekah Weidel had four goals. Goalie Becky Meyer made 13 saves for LBC (0-2).

"We made too many mistakes in the first half," Chargers' Head Coach Zach Freeman said. "The way we started I thought we were right on track and Rutgers-Camden called a timeout after our second goal and we sort of just stopped playing."

The Raptors (2-2) scored eight of the next nine goals, many of them coming off eight meter shots after LBC fouls.

"Mentally we just weren't there in the first half," Freeman said. "Our first game we did the little things right and today we just didn't."

Freeman was pleased with the team's transition offense which helped create four of the Chargers' goals.

"Meyer's throws from the goal were great and really helped jumpstart our offense," Freeman said. "If we can get those types of throws from goal and have our midfielders make good decisions, we will be in good shape."

LBC is back in action on Tuesday when they take on King's at 4 p.m.
