In what has become a season-long trend, the Lancaster Bible College women's lacrosse team could not overcome a slow start and lost to Penn St. Abington, 17-9. LBC (0-10, 0-5 NEAC) trailed 4-0 just 3:30 into the game and though they fought back to make it a two-goal deficit twice in the first half, could not get over the hump and suffered their fifth NEAC loss of the season.
Rebekah Weidel led the way with five goals for the Chargers, while
Whitney Heise added two goals.
Akasha Kapp and
Ky-Leigh Hallman had the other LBC goals.
Nicole Valinteno made 12 saves in goal for the Chargers.
"There isn't a huge glaring weakness in our team play, it's just lots of little things that we can't seem to put together," Chargers' Head Coach
Zach Freeman said. "It could be a dropped pass or not getting to a cutter in time on the defensive end. We just can't seem to put everything together."
Freeman added that the team also shot itself in the foot numerous times on Wednesday.
"Abington had some players who were strong players, but we made their goalie look good most of the day and should have taken advantage of some of our free position shots," Freeman said. "We work so hard to get those opportunities and then we waste them. Good teams don't let those opportunities slip away."
The Chargers will continue to search for their first win on Friday when they host Cazenovia at 5 p.m.
