Heise Powers Chargers Past Wilson for First Victory of 2012

The Lancaster Bible College women's lacrosse team won its first game of the season on Saturday, celebrating Senior Day with a 16-14 win over Wilson. Whitney Heise scored a school-record 12 goals to lead the Chargers, while Rebekah Weidel added three goals and Danielle Good had one.

After leading 7-6 at halftime, LBC (1-14, 1-8 NEAC) stretched its lead to 10-6 with just 3:43 into the second half. After a Wilson timeout however, the Chargers gave up eight of the next nine goals and trailed, 14-11 with just over 10 minutes to play.

"We had the same thing happen in the first half," Chargers' Head Coach Zach Freeman said. "We jumped out to an early lead, Wilson called a timeout and we came out of the timeout with no energy. The momentum can change quick, but we didn't do a good job of keeping it after Wilson's two timeouts."

The Chargers didn't quit however and tied the game with 8:06 to play on a goal by Heise. Heise capped the comeback two minutes later and gave the Chargers a lead they would not lose.

"Whitney was great today," Freeman said. "They didn't have an answer for her and she was smart with the ball all day."

Heise added an insurance goal with 2:58 to play, giving her 68 goals for the season and extending her school record.

LBC goalie Nicole Valinteno made 14 saves and was 4-for-8 on clears.

"When we do the little things right, we score goals and can control the play," Freeman said. "When we run around and fail to do the little things, we get ourselves into trouble."

The Chargers, who honored seniors, Amber Franks, Danielle Musselman and Weidel, prior to the game, will host their final game of the season on Monday when they take on Wilkes at 4:30 p.m. LBC will wrap up its season on Thursday when it travels to Rosemont at 4 p.m.
