The Lancaster Bible College women's lacrosse team can't seem to put two halves of solid lacrosse together. After having in trouble in the first half of many of their games thus far, the Chargers played one of their best halves of the season in the opening half of the game at Immaculata on Tuesday. It was the second half that did them in this time.
The host Mighty Macs outscored the Chargers, 13-1 in the second half and breezed to a 24-9 victory.
Tuesday's game began like many of LBC's games this season as Immaculata stormed out to a 5-0 lead just eight minutes into the game. After a timeout, the Chargers began putting dents into Immaculata's lead and trailed just 11-8 at halftime.
"I thought the last 20 minutes of the first half were our best minutes of the season," Chargers' Head Coach
Zach Freeman said. "We moved the ball up the field, we played well on the defensive end and got some big stops from goalie,
Nicole Valinteno. The ladies wanted it more and they showed it."
With all of the momentum in their favor, halftime couldn't have come at a worse time for the Chargers.
"I wish we could have just kept playing, but obviously you can't do that," Freeman said. "The ladies were positive at halftime and I think we all thought we were ready to go and had a great chance to win."
Immaculata quickly proved that would not be the case. The Mighty Macs scored seven times in the first 5:35 of the second half and blew open a close game.
"It just happened so quickly," Freeman said. "We lost possession early in the half and it snowballed. I'm not sure we won a draw the entire half."
Whitney Heise led LBC with five goals, while
Rebekah Weidel added three goals.
Danielle Good scored for the second straight game as well for the Chargers (0-9).
"We have an in-experienced team overall, but at some point we need to start playing with confidence," Freeman said. "We have to learn that the little things are just as important as the big things. We can't worry about where to shoot the ball if we can't catch and throw the ball first."
LBC returns to the field next Wednesday when they take on Penn St. Abington at 12:45 p.m. at Upper Dublin Sports Park.
